STUDIO NAWA

Studio NAWA is a creative practice based in Chicago, founded by Alina Nazmeeva and John Wagner. Their collaboration brings together two complementary disciplines: one rooted in digital media, immersive technologies, and interactive environments, the other grounded in architecture, materiality, fabrication, and the longevity of objects. Together, they develop an approach shaped by digital simulation, craftsmanship, and formal research, producing works that sit at the intersection of functional art, design, and material experimentation. Their work considers how a digital form can become a real, inhabitable, and lasting object.

Their process combines digital modeling, hands-on fabrication, and close observation of use. This method allows them to transform complex virtual forms into tangible objects while preserving the precision inherent to digital environments.

Through the Surface Collection, Studio NAWA translates forms originating in the digital world into handcrafted pieces made from stainless steel. Tables, seating, consoles, and mirrors begin as simulations before being cut, shaped, polished, and assembled with precision. Their reflective surfaces alter the perception of volume and space while maintaining a strong physical presence. Each creation emerges from a demanding transition between virtual and physical realms, in which technology does not replace the hand but extends the act of making. This approach gives their pieces a distinctive identity that feels contemporary, technical, and deeply material.
