STUDIO INDIGENE

Studio Indigene explores objects of varied scale and functionality, spanning both everyday use and decorative presence. The studio’s language is rooted in clean lines, restrained curves, and a strong experimentation of volume, allowing each design to develop a clear and recognisable identity. Wood remains the primary medium, valued for its warmth, structure, and expressive grain. Rather than concealing material qualities, Studio Indigene highlights them, using proportion and form to bring balance and quiet strength to each piece. The studio approaches design as a dialogue between material, function, and space, creating objects that can command attention while remaining versatile enough to inhabit diverse interiors with ease.

Studio Indigene was founded by architects Tanvi Deolekar and Shubham Mestry, both based in Mumbai, India, where they were born and raised. The studio serves as a medium through which their architectural sensibilities are translated into objects of utility and décor, guided by ratio, proportion, and material clarity.

Each Studio Indigene piece is realised through close collaboration with skilled woodworkers, whose traditional carving practices are thoughtfully adapted and at times challenged to meet contemporary design intentions. The process is deliberate and meticulous: from selecting well-seasoned wood to refining finishes that preserve the natural grain, every step is treated as an essential part of the work. Assembly becomes an act of composition, transforming individual elements into a coherent whole. As a result, no two pieces are ever identical; each object is singular in the truest sense. Studio Indigene views its creations as heirloom pieces, objects made to endure, to be touched, lived with, and quietly appreciated over time, carrying forward the trace of the hands that shaped them and the intention behind their making.
