BRAJAK VITBERG

Brajak Vitberg is a multidisciplinary art and design studio founded in 2019 by architects Petra Brajak and Robert V. Bijelić in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Anchored in an architectural way of thinking, the studio develops objects and lighting pieces that blur the boundaries between design, art, and spatial experience. Their work is defined by an experimental yet timeless approach, where making is inseparable from thinking. Each object emerges from a direct dialogue between concept and material, with no separation between the creative process and its physical outcome. Brajak Vitberg favors limited small-batch productions and one-of-a-kind pieces, allowing each design to retain its specificity, character, and material integrity. Rather than following trends, the studio seeks to create crafted elements that endure, objects conceived to exist beyond immediate function, as presences that shape atmosphere and perception.

At the core of their philosophy lies the idea of “incomplete perfection.” Imperfection is not corrected but embraced, becoming a driving force within the design process. Irregularities, tensions, and subtle imbalances are treated as essential qualities that allow material, time, and human intervention to remain visible within each piece.

Material experimentation plays a central role in Brajak Vitberg’s language. Plexiglass, dichroic foil, steel, and brass are recurrently explored for their capacity to capture, refract, and activate light. Through layering, transparency, and reflective surfaces, their objects generate shifting visual effects that evolve with movement, daylight, and the viewer’s position. Light is never static; it becomes an active component of the work, transforming each piece into an energetic and immersive presence. This stratified and eclectic vocabulary, at once poetic and raw, positions the studio at the intersection of architecture, fashion, and visual art. Early recognition in the field of lighting design affirmed the strength of their experimental direction, encouraging further exploration of perception, temporality, and human connection. Today, Brajak Vitberg continues to develop objects that are not merely functional or decorative, but experiential, crafted artifacts that engage the senses, alter spatial atmospheres, and propose a lasting dialogue between material, light, and the contemporary moment.
