JOYFUL OBJECTS, YES!

Joyful Objects, Yes! is a Mexico City–based design studio founded in 2021 by industrial designer Joy Valdez, originally from Mérida, Yucatán. Rooted in a desire to bring joy, color, and individuality into everyday spaces, the studio challenges the idea that design must be restrained or solemn to be meaningful. Joy Valdez approaches object design as a field of freedom and experimentation, where form, color, and material interact without rigid hierarchies. Her work embraces playfulness as a serious design language, one capable of expressing emotion, memory, and cultural identity. Each piece is conceived as a joyful presence, designed to animate interiors while remaining attentive to function, balance, and craftsmanship.

Valdez describes her practice as "experimentation in shapes and colors". Rather than following a fixed design line, she allows each object to emerge intuitively through material exploration. Functionality remains essential, but it is never allowed to limit expression.

Deeply influenced by Mexican culture and traditions, Joyful Objects, Yes! integrates local materials and artisanal references into a contemporary vocabulary. Chuspata, a traditional Mexican natural fiber, appears alongside metal structures, resins, fiberglass, and wood, creating unexpected dialogues between softness and structure. The sinuous, wavy silhouettes of Valdez’s designs often echo kinetic forms and rippling movement, infusing spaces with energy and warmth. These pieces are produced as limited editions, reinforcing their collectible nature and preserving a sense of individuality. While playful at first glance, the work carries a deeper intention: to honor heritage while reinterpreting it through modern design sensibilities. Joy Valdez’s objects do not seek perfection or uniformity; instead, they celebrate variation, tactility, and character. By weaving together experimentation, craftsmanship, and cultural memory, Joyful Objects, Yes! proposes a joyful approach to living, one where design becomes an invitation to embrace curiosity, lightness, and the pleasure of everyday rituals.
