MARQUEL RASHAAD WILLIAMS
Marquel Rashaad Williams explores the relationship between material and form through an independent practice where precision meets experimentation. His work navigates between functional domestic objects and collectible pieces with a sculptural presence, always grounded in clarity of concept. Guided by a rigorous standard for practicality, craft, and aesthetics, Williams develops designs that feel architectural in their logic yet intimate in use. Structure is never hidden; it becomes the language itself, an honest expression of load, balance, and assembly.
Across the collection, I-beam profiles and precisely angled components are paired with laser-cut and folded aluminum sheets, forming silhouettes that read like fragments of a building translated into the scale of the body. Surfaces are finished with a waxed treatment that tempers the metal’s severity, giving it a more tactile, lived-in character. In seating pieces, full-grain leather introduces warmth and softness, creating a deliberate contrast against the industrial framework. In lighting, adjustable elements and double-sided emission extend the architectural reference into atmosphere, using geometry to direct glow and shadow with control. Each object is conceived as part of the structure it inhabits, designed to sit within a space with the same authority as a beam, while remaining fully usable, precise, and quietly expressive.
